Sounds good. I already know *how* to do it so I wouldn't expect to have to go view the handbook page. I think I'm still trying to adjust from my Navigation block withdrawal.

This is much, much more about just the being able to add new projects. As a member of the security team, I don't have any link on http://drupal.org/security/contrib to create a new SA (aka forum post node).

I have 5+ projects at drupal.org and have wasted 5 minutes looking for a link to add project!!!
And I did not find it!
I have used Google to find this issue and page where I can add project.
I think at the page 'Your Projects' should be this link.
Please do it.

I don't think this is a complete solution, but here's a patch and some screenshots of adding an "Add a new project" link to the My projects page.

I'm not thrilled with the case where you have projects and it adds a new row to the bottom of the table. Since the colspan is to make the row full width, and the first column is active, you end up with a really strong row all the way across the bottom of the table (and depending on the zebra striping, it can be quite dark).

However, if I just had the link outside the table as raw text, it seemed to easily get lost between the table and the exposed filters for the issue view below.

Because it's tagged "needs usability review" and the status is "needs review" and no one has done either of those things. Plus, we've been busy releasing Drupal 7.0. ;)

Not at all. Anyone can review these. Familiarity with Project* is a plus, but not a requirement. And anyone can review the screenshots to start a usability review, too...

This is just a UI / usability review.

Linking to Add under My Project seems good, but not too discoverable. How discoverable do we want the link to be? How often do people create new projects? Personally, I've never created one :) If it needs more visibility, we might need to add it elsewhere too.

Under what circumstances would someone not be able to create a project? Just peeked at d.o. permissions and it looks like any authenticated user can "create full projects". Anonymous users will not see the My Projects tab anyway.

Currently, you also need an approved CVS account to create a project.

Post-Git migration, any authenticated user that checks a "I'll only upload GPL code" checkbox on their profile and uploads an ssh key will be able to create sandbox projects, and approved users (whatever that means) will be able to create full projects.

No, adding new projects shouldn't be that common. Hard to exactly quantify, but it definitely shouldn't be something people are doing over and over again, even with sandboxes.

Hmm, couple more thoughts.

To "outsiders", the phrase "My Project" could mean anything. For those users without any projects, can we add "Projects are modules, themes, translations and installation profiles that you own or co-maintain."

I don't think the "Add a new project" stands out very well when it's part of the table, esp for those with a lot of projects, but I'd say leave it there for now and see how it goes.

I'm sure a lot of people are still typing node/add/project in the url :)

UI wise I think the approach is fine. We can discuss the strings as pointed out by lisa.

If you want some extra visibility, try class="action-button", as seen at the top-right of http://drupal.org/drupal-services. Works well for add links in the sidebar, but not sure about here, certainly not as part of a sentence.
