Hi.

I tried to use CKEditor in drupal 6.19 that is installed on IIS 6. I am running into the problem that CKEditor doesn't show up. Neither does the textbox that CKEditor is supposed to replace. All I get is a blank space with a "switch to plain text mode" link. When I try and use the switch to text mode link, nothing happens (except I get a "error on page" message on the IE8 status bar). When I drop ckeditor into my local test server running apache, it works like a dream. Here are the steps I took:

  1. Download ckeditor module from http://www.drupal.org/project/ckeditor
  2. Download ckeditor itself from http://www.ckeditor.com
  3. Unzip and upload ckeditor module to sites/all/modules
  4. Unzip and upload ckeditor itself to sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor
  5. The recommendation from http://drupal.ckeditor.com/troubleshooting?page=7 is to remove .htaccess from the ckeditor application found in sites/all/modules/ckeditor/ckeditor, so I did
  6. Go to www.mysite.com/admin/build/modules and enable the ckeditor module
  7. Make sure the user permissions are set right in user>permissions
  8. Make sure settings are right in site configuration>ckeditor
  9. Go to create content>page. The editor should show up, but it doesn't

When doing the above steps on the apache server, everything works fine. The server admin said I needed to come to you guys for advice. Any ideas on what might be going on? I am on Windows XP Home for my dev site. If someone can tell me how to get a screenshot of the pages in question, let me know if it will help. This is what my status report says:

I'm having the same problem, but with different conditions. I'm running on Apache and my ckeditor windows doesn't appear when using IE8, but it does appear in FF 3.6.3. My site is an Intranet in development and I hadn't touched it for a few months and then noticed this problem today. Since I needed several updates, I went ahead and did them, but to no avail.
I'm now running Core 6.19 (was on 6.16), and I've updated CkEditor to version 3.4 (from 3.1) and neither has affected this issue.
I've tried it on more than one computer and have the same results.

So frustrating!!

OK. After testing in Firefox and IE, I come up with a few things:

1. CKEditor doesn't show up in IE7+ and there is "error on page" on the status bar. The plain edit box doesn't show up when clicking the "switch to plain text mode" link either.
2. When using Firefox 3.6.9, CKEditor does show up as expected and the "switch to plain text mode" link works as expected. The difference now is that all of the post (create content>page) category headers (the ajax drop down panels) are disabled and you can't expand/colapse them anymore. So, I can't get to 90% of the page settings if using FF.

I would imagine that there is a javascript problem like I mentioned before. When I went to the script tab of firebird, I saw at least 10 instances of ckeditor.js loaded in the current page. This needs to get fixed.

OK, after fighting this for almost 8 hours, I finally figured out what combination of things were causing my problem - maybe yours is similiar.
The bottom line is that "Admin Menu" (version 1.6) apparently causes a problem with the CKEditor (regardless of whether you use Ckeditor module or Wysiwyg) when using the Tapestry theme from RoopleThemes in IE 8. If I disable the Admin Menu, it works fine. If I change only the theme, it works fine. If I use FF it works fine. But using the combination I stated all togther, I don't get the CKEditor window.
So, for me, no more Admin menu for now.
What a monumental waste of time.....

How do you disable the admin menu? I don't have admin menu module installed anywhere. I still have the problem and I can't seem to fix it.

Don't know what is going on, but my problem was swf tools>soundmanager2 set to clickable mp3 links. I wonder if it is some conflict in CKEditor itself?

My setup is: Apache 2.2.16 (on Windows 2003 64 bit), PHP 5.2.14, Drupal 6.19. CKEditor fails to display correctly on IE 8 (32 bit on Windows 7 64 bit, site is "Trusted site", protected mode is off. Tried both standard and compatibility view) if I use any version from 3.2 onwards. 3.1 works. I am using RoopleTheme LiteJazz theme, but the issue is present with the Garland default theme as well.

CKEditor displays the toolbar and a grey area instead of the editor pane, and a javascript error:

To update my problem, I ended up doing a clean install of D6.19. I enabled all modules that were present in the original install. Now ckeditor works like it should. Server admin said that the mysql server ran away and possibly torched the database.

I had the same issue recently with CKEditor and FCKEditor after I updated to Drupal Version 6.19

I think it has to do with the new way the Editors check to see if the user is authenticated. This is by checking the current cookie.

So firstly: Logout of the site. (be aware if there are many users on your site who are logged in. This fix below could cause Access denied messages when users try to log back in. So test this on a dev version first.)

Open the the site's settings.php (first change the permissions to 644 so you can write to the file.)

Try uncomment the line below: (remove the // )

// $cookie_domain = 'example.com';

(I don't think there is a need for the "www." )

You might also have to uncomment and set your base URL further up in the settings.php file:

$base_url = 'http://www.example.com'; // NO trailing slash!

Save and change back settings.php file permissions to 444

Worked for me.

Remember to Read the Readme.txt file in the modules/ckeditor folder.

If you have updated CkEditor recently, you'll also notice that the CKEditor/Ckeditor folder might be empty!

sites/all/libraries/ckeditor directory. (this is my choice, so that the folder doesn't get removed again)
