Currently you can only upload a default image to show if no images are uploaded.
Would it be able to have a URL field as an optional choice to point to a default image?
Then you don't have to upload a default image for every content type, but can simply point the URL to the first uploaded default image or a custom uploaded image in the files directory.
The image in the URL will have to go through imagechace actions
Or what about a select list to select previously uploaded default images.
Thanks, great module

quicksketchThe default image must exist in the database in order to be referenced. This means that if we did allow a URL, we'd need to transfer it locally, insert it into the database, and then reference our copy. Considering this is a significant coding investment and default images are dealt with only by site-builders, this option will not be added to ImageField. Additionally, ImageField has been moved into core for Drupal 7, where this feature also does not exist. However, in Drupal 7 we now have a reusable upload field for use anywhere within Drupal, meaning a module like FileField Sources could provide a URL (or a select list or a browser) option in addition to the normal upload.
So the short of it is, this feature won't be added in Drupal 6, but we almost get it inherently in Drupal 7 through possible add-on modules like FileField Sources.
