Having clean urls is strongly recommended. Note that .htaccess is missing in 2.0-beta7. Download the newest version or grab a copy of .htaccess file from drupal.
It's also strongly recommended that php 5.2 is used (http://drupal.org/node/889002#comment-3362410)

Yes, I now have .htaccess in place. I think I found a work around. Now I am using Fedora with php 5.3.x. Unfortunately I don't have the ability to downgrade the php version. So I have to work with what I'm given.

I plan to turn on clean URLs. But for the time being...

Specifically on http://openscholar/?q=user the error issued was:

I'm trying the following test. Taking line 451 from 

   if (function_exists($callback) && call_user_func_array($callback, $argments)) {
         return TRUE;
       }

to (notice: array($argments))

 if (function_exists($callback) && call_user_func_array($callback, array($argments))) {
     return TRUE;
   }

This seem to work for me! Obviously more testing will be needed.
