I was wondering if someone could kindly help me set the granularity of the date field depending on the role of the user using form alter or preprocess?

For user with role A I need 'm d Y' and for user with role B I need 'Y m d'

I require code that will change the granularity depending on role.

IF role A, use 'm d Y' order for select list. So [-Month] [-Day] [-Year]
IF role B, use 'Y m d' order for select list. So [-Year] [-Month] [-Day]
