A very convenient module, thank you! Unfortunately, the module seems not to be compatible with multilingual variables like 'menu_primary_links_source' and 'menu_secondary_links_source' in settings.php. Or do I miss something?

You are not missing anything. The module is not compatible with multilingual variables (and hasn't been thoroughly tested with the I18N module).

I'll mark this as a feature request.
