Incorrect number of pages appears at bottom of default front page

When not logged in, the bottom of the page suggests that there are 8 pages of recent content. Pages 1-4 operate properly, however clicking on 5-8 brings you instead to the "Welcome to your new Drupal website!" page, asking for creation of the first administrator user. When logged in as uid=1 there are actually 9 pages of content; the Organic Groups access control prevents anonymous users from seeing any of the extra content. This may or may not be related.
