I can not get "user/register" to alias. I just get "The path 'user/register' is either invalid or you do not have access to it."

Any idea what's going on?

Logged-in users can't access user/register #17664: user/register should show custom message instead of 403 for logged-in users, and you can't create an alias for a path you don't have access to.

Workaround #1: add the alias manually to the url_alias table.

Workaround #2: haven't tested this (I did the above before I thought of it) but if you're on a local/dev environment, give anonymous user enough permissions to add an alias. (I was giving unauth users access to devel while messing with the user/register form, which is what made me think of this.)
