Atribute 'class' shouldn't be overwrited in function signwriter_menu_item_link since it causes confilcts with other modules, which operate on it. For example, there is a problem when Menu Attributes module is used http://drupal.org/project/menu_attributes. I've attached the patch, which works for me.
