Appears that subscribers who have email addresses with a double dot extention
i.e. user@xtra.co.nz
are not be found in either an admin search or in a user unsubscribe action.

The subscriber receives newsletters fine but any attempt to search for this user or to unsubscribe this type of user results in the user not found.

I can not reproduce your problem the above example address (un)subscribes fine both as user and as anonymous. Please describe the steps to reproduce this problem on a plain vanilla core + simplenews install.
