UTF requirement not mentioned

I was happily installing Drupal on a website when I got an error from MySQL.

After a half-hour of poking around I come to realize that I need to somehow have a UTF-8 enabled database. Maybe this could be added to the system requirements - would have saved me the install time and the big let down at the end...
