I am using cck file and and JQuery media to embed my videos in nodes. User1 was seeing them fine, anon users saw a blank white area instead of the video. I have worked out that if I give [access administration menu] permissions to anon users (I know - not a good idea). the problem goes away. As soon as I untick access administration menu the anon users cant see the node properly again.

any thoughts please - I can do a quick video if that helps?

If it is not working when Administration menu is not enabled/accessible for users, then you (or any of your modules) are somehow using features of Administration menu to work properly. That, of course, will fail.
