Im running drupal 6.13. When I install jQuery update 6.x 2.x dev this brings down the entire site. Whatever link I klick (even in the admin area), a lightbox2 frame opens without any content. Had to remove jQuery update the dirty way. Possibly it is incompatible with lightbox2

Ertz CreditAttribution: Ertz commentedI got the same problem with drupal 6.13. The version of lightbox2 I got was from Acquia Drupal, which, having run a comparison with the latest download on drupal.org is identical -[lightbox2.info,v 1.1.6.4 2008/07/14 11:51:34].
I am attaching a picture so you can see what it looks like. If you click on the [X] to close the lightbox it reappears.
The Version of jquery_update is a dev version = "6.x-2.x-dev".
Many of the jQuery UI tools and plug-ins require jQuery 1.3.2, as the drupal core comes with 1.2.6.
Currently if you want lightbox2 and the latest jQuery plugins, you can only have one or the other, as the lightbox frame takes over every time you click on any menu item on your site (add content, list content, admin reports - everything). The way to stop the lightbox from repeatedly "playing" is to enter the exact url of the page you want to go to, or force a refresh of the page, as long as you dont touch any menu items.
You can remove the problem the non 'dirty' way by entering the exact url to the modules page e.g. http://localhost/drupal/admin/build/modules and then unchecking JQuery Updater (or Lightbox2).
