The other think is the comment text area is way too big. To illustrate this, look at the length of the green and blue line here:

For almost all applications of comments, the default is just way too large, and setting the default size is too deeply embedded in themeing for relatively inexperienced users. The result is that the comment facility is not usable "out of the box".
