I have set my Catalog grid to show 3 items in a row. My problem is if I have 2 or 1 items, they occupy the whole horizontal space allocated for the grid.

Is it possible to keep each item in the catalog from going beyond their allocated space (33.3% if I set catalog to display 3 items in a row in grid view)?

Not sure... it's probably something you can adjust with CSS in your theme. Otherwise, consider making a custom View. For further support, please refer to the support forums on Ubercart.org.
