I'll have to pay closer attention next time I commit something, but I'm about 80% sure that this block is counting the number of files affected during a commit against your total, not the total number of commits you've done.

Robert Douglass twittered that I had 2009 commits, and after committing what I'm pretty sure was only one or two patches, I was up to 2018 or something.
