Hello,
could it be possbile to edit a newsletter and send a test newsletter to any address, to be entered in an appropriate field.
Thus, another editor with the proper rights could edit and send test newsletter to him/herself even if the pre-set test address is not the same.
There would be another practical application to this: it's to send a courtesy letter to a new subscriber. Here is what our webmaster says:
It occurs to me that I should tell you what I do now when someone subscribes, so you can tell me the best way to handle this in the future. I go to MyNewsletterBuilder and send them a sample current newsletter (it lets you fill in whatever address you want to send a copy to...as opposed to limiting you to the "test address" like Drupal) Then I send the subscriber a personal email from my address, thanking them for subscribing, and telling them that I've sent them the current newsletter and that if they didn't get it, their spam detector has probably blocked it. That alerts people right away to go fetch the newsletter out of their junk folder. I figure they'll forget about it by the time the beginning of the next month rolls around.
thanks,
B.

beginner commentedThe following issue would be a requirement for this issue.

beginner commentedIt seems it's already possible to do that with 4.7/CVS.
Can you confirm?

DriesK commentedYes, simplenews cvs/4.7 has an option 'allow test address override'.
As I explained here, new features that are implemented in 4.7 will normally not be backported to 4.6. I know, this issue is marked 'cvs', I'm only trying to anticipate :-)

beginner commentedWait, wait, wait...
I read the list of new features again:
http://drupal.org/node/32185
and now I'm no longer sure we can close this issue.
The feature list says we can override the test email address, to use while editing the newsletter, before it is actually sent.
What we want, it to be able to send the newsletter to a small selection of addresses (manual input) AFTER the newsletter has actually been sent to all others who previously subscribed. It's a way to say "welcome to the newsletter. Please be patient until the next issue comes out. Meanwhile, here is a back copy."
Is this possible (after the newsletter has been marked as 'sent')?

sutharsan commentedSimplenews 6 supports actions and triggers. There is one trigger when a users subscribes and there is an action to send a newsletter to a user. Now you have the building blocks to build this functionality. This is not expected to be backported to Simplenews 5
