Is there a purpose for the negative user points to have an expiration date? What happens when the expiration date passes?

I would have assumed that when a user point is added to a user then the expiration applies to those points. But when you use a point for something, a record gets added to the userpoints_txn table.

Please explain?

Because there is no technical difference between adding and removing points, they are stored and handled exactly the same way.
