I am finding that changing the "Display xxx publicly" checkbox requires two saves to be effective.

A quick test and I can't confirm this. But, our installs could be different enough or some other factor.

Can you provide some more details please? Version of Drupal, if your using a custom or contrib theme, what other modules you have installed, what profile field you're testing on, steps, really anything.

I tried on a 6.9 site with a custom theme, on a textfield profile field and it appeared after one save. I'll try and test on a fresh 6.11 install with Garland and no contrib installed later if I can.

I'll have to retest now and gather all that info; I've been to sleep a couple of times since I reported this. I was on Garland then, I am now on Pixture-reloaded.
