It would be great if you could limit email links to certain content types. I would love to help out on this feature if I can. I have programming experience but am new to Drupal as well as to open-source contributions. Let me educate myself a little more and I'll try to get in touch with you later if you'd like the help.

This already exists. Go to administer->content->content types and edit the type you wish to hide the link from. The option to display the forward link is in the workflow fieldset.
