After the update to the version which allows to select form ids, the Beauty Tips do not appear anymore. I updated by replacing the files in sites/all/modules/beautytips and ran update.php. No error messages appeared, hence the update was successful. I tested with Firefox 3.0.8. Therefore the problem has probably nothing to do with excanvas_0002, which I installed anyway. When I go back to the old version the Beauty Tips do appear again. Do you need any more details? If so, which ones?

This is a duplicate of #432240: Form id selection problems. The discussion from there has been moved to #413438: Limiting beautytips to selected form-ids.
kleinmp is working on implementing the idea behind my patches, which also should fix this bug in the progress.
