Is it possible to alter vote_up_down_widget_alt.tpl.php to print both the icon and points and a text link saying "Give one point"?

It would be great if the text (give one point) appears if the user hasn´t voted yet and the text dissapears after the user has voted.

No more features to 6.x-1.x, please take a look to the update on the project page.

IMHO it's easier to accomplish what you want on 2.x using a custom widget.
