May seem obvious, but you get what you pay for. =/

A good and free Drupal webhost.
I have also been looking for one!
Any kind of help is appreciated!!

if you find one and drupal doesn't work right, we reserve the right to say "told ya so!"

But Drupal can run well enough on 'cheap' hosts in the $5-$10/month range.

Probably the best free host I use is Kilu.de, hosted in Germany. Unless you speak German, you won't have much luck on their forum. Their interface appears to actually be a Drupal site itself, which is cool, but it lacks features. The functionality seemed reliable once they helped me get my .htaccess file in order. They're the best free host I've used so far.

I also used Freehostia.com for a few months. Some things I liked about them: their control panel had a ton of features, the e-mail support was quicker than I expected for a free host. They had an automated Drupal installer script. And hey, it was free! Some of the limitations I ran into were: Speed- not the fastest. Server configuration seems antiquated and requires tweaks to the .htaccess files. The biggest difficulty for me was that my directory permissions would reset to 555 each time I called the site in my browser. I had to reset to 755 to get it to work. But the nail in the coffin for me was that they currently run MySQL 4, and Drupal 6 didn't play nicely with it. I never did get my Drupal 6 site to work consistently, but my Drupal 5 worked pretty well.

I am now using DreamHost, after using a promo code from a friend. It's not free, but it's just about unlimited everything, and includes one free domain registration. They offer free hosting for registered non-profits. Otherwise you can use my affiliate code: DREAMSTALLION That makes it just $5.70/mo for your first year. It's not free, but it's reliable.

Good luck!

If you are student or work for school, you can get a free one from Lunarpages which should be pretty good. Otherwise, I don't see good hosting you can get as free.

I would have to agree with WorldFallz and say that free hosting isn't always what it's cracked up to be. While free is appealing, you pay for it in other ways. Also, I have heard too many horror stories about free hosting sites going belly up or turning to paid hosting because they couldn't generate enough revenue from the ads force on your site.

If you want decent drupal hosting you need to bite the bullet and get paid hosting. As silverwing pointed out you can find one for $5-$10. Actually I know quite a fewthat are even below $5/mo. Plus a great way to help pay for the hosting is to join the host's affiliate program. Basically you promote the host and they pay you a commission for the referrals. Who knows, not only could the hosting pay for itself, but you might even make some money from it.

If you need more personalized advice I would be happy to review your hosting needs and recommend a good host for you. Send me a PM with what you are looking to do and I can see if I can help.

I have a reseller account for personnal projects, with more space than I need... I may be willing to give away 5 accounts of 100Megs of space and 1G of monthly bandwidth to the first guys asking for it...

This offer is good to anyone who is running a simple drupal site... no downloads, no videos!

I definitely encourage that you find a suitable paid web hosting provider instead of a free web hosting provider.

Hi all!
(http://drupal.org/node/208121) If you wish to try, nobody has subscribed with my free offer yet. You could check out if what I'm giving complies with your needs.
I eventually can adjust space and b/w based on your needs, also.
I'm testing since late 2007 and it seems it's doing great work untill now.
