Problem/Motivation

We are already starting to be approached by folks who work at vendors and want to offer something up for this group. That's a fantastic thing to happen! However, we want to make sure when this is done, it's done in the correct "spirit" of learning, not a captive audience for sales pitches.

Claude, @dan2k3k4, and I collaborated on https://www.drupal.org/docs/develop/development-tools/ai-coding-tools-fo... which seems great as a starting point.

Marking needs review.

From my side - all good, but would be nice to have someone else RTBC this

This sounds great, I only stumbled over "Leave Room for Conversation", I was wondering why I should go out to have discussions ;-)

What you have looks good to me.

One thing you could add would be expectations on time for a full, half, or partial session.

"Leave Room for Conversation" 😆

Thanks for the laugh, Jurgen! English is a funny language!

I’ve read through it and it’s clear. I like the brevity.

Formatting wise, I found the bold headings then non-bold text bullets without new lines, colons, or dashes a little odd looking on my phone, but probably doesn’t need changing.

Thanks 🙏

To clarify my comment, here’s a screenshot

Copying over my feedback from Slack:

While I agree that sales pitches shouldn't be something we make space for, I do think giving folks an idea of cost is a good thing. We are all discovering the hidden costs of developing and using AI, and I think being up-front about that == helpful info for this community.

How about a new list item under "For Presenters":

Be transparent about cost: Share real costs if possible, and provide tips on how to guard against runaway costs.

I've seen our presenters do this kind of thing already, and I think it's appreciated and should be encouraged as a best practice for all presenters, when applicable/possible.

Yeah, AI can be expensive so good idea 👍

After some enlightening discussion (in Slack), I can see now how introducing words like "costs" into a section on Tips for Presenters could send the wrong message to potential presenters. Meaning it could well attract sales pitches rather than peer-to-peer show-and-tell presentations. And we don't want that.

So I'm fine with the section as-is!

After some reflection, I think we can handle this in the "Be Real and Authentic" bullet. For example:

Be Real and Authentic Share what you actually tried, including mistakes and surprises. Explaining "I expected X but got Y" is often more helpful than a perfect success story. You don't need to be an expert; curiosity and honesty are what matter here. Add: This includes being transparent about the real costs of what is being demoed, and tips on how to guard against runaway costs.

Then we don't make the "headline" about pricing (which was my trigger, my bad 😅) but rather around being authentic and truthful, which I think everyone can get behind!

I like the addition in #10. It reads clear to me.

As participants, we will likely need to gently remind presenters not to be too "salesy".

So far, it has not been a problem, thankfully! But just yesterday, two vendors independently approached me about "show and telling" their thing on our meetings. I'm not completely opposed to this, as long as they're "showing and telling" how to solve a real, actual problem that Drupalists trying to get up to speed on AI actually have, and their product is talked about as more of a "footnote"/FYI.

But I predict a flood of similar requests is coming, so I want to try and get out in front of it, so that our lovely authentic learner community doesn't morph into a marketing channel. 🤮

Thank you for getting ahead of that.

IMO I think we’re good with the changes and have had several people chime in, so I’m RTBCing.

Ok, great! Here's a diff https://www.drupal.org/node/3585026/revisions/view/14326385/14327588, which reflects:

1. Rephrasing "Leave" room for "Plan" room per #3
2. Adds in the note about costs from #10

(I tried a few times to fix the stupid in there so if anyone knows how to do that, feel free to do so :P)

Otherwise... Fixed! :D Woohoo!

Oops, also I thought I already responded to this but perhaps the internet ate it:

"One thing you could add would be expectations on time for a full, half, or partial session."

I think this is a great idea, but I also think we're too new to really be able to set such expectations set yet. We've only done two of these, one that was a free form "go around the room" show and tell, and another that was one presenter more or less "talking at" the room.

But i'll leave a mental note to go back and revisit this once we have a few more under our belt and have an idea of what the various "formats" look like. 👍

I checked the diff and the live page and it looks good, thanks all 🙏
