Just as the title goes: How much for private download setting to be supported?
Do you think this is do'able? I would be very interested as i can't currently change this setting on my website.
Love the idea and congratulations every one involved. Keep up the good work ;)

Richard Blackborder commentedWhat would be the purpose of private download of user badges? As I understand, these badges will display to everyone who can view the user profile; there is no permission to view badges.
When would you want user badges to not be viewable?

heine commentedThe private or public file system setting is a global setting. Now, when you enable the private file system to get access control on downloads, User badges doesn't work at all, due to the way it stores filepaths.

Richard Blackborder commentedUnderstood. This is how I plan to develop the image handling:
Opinions are welcomed.

Anonymous (not verified) commentedYes, on community sites it is frequent thing that most content is available only for registred users. Thats why download method set to "Private". But User Badges is very good feature for community sites... It would be gerat if User Badges support private download.

tahongawaka commentedYes, I agree that it should not depend on Private download module for serving the images. I just found this module, and I think that it's exactly what I'm looking for, except for the non-compatbility with Private.
Aside from re-writing the 3 or 4 portions listed above, is there any way of short-circuiting one or the other module to allow public viewing of the images?

Richard Blackborder commentedThe new dev version supports the entry of any image URL for user badges. This will be included in the next major release.

magnus commentedMarked #947172: Private download setting as a duplicate of this issue.
It would be really nice to be able to fully use private file system and not be dependent of a public directory for User Badges to work.
Could maybe be solved with Imagefield?
