Problem/Motivation
When importing a BibTeX I would expect that the usual bibkey (in the first line of an entry) is imported as "Citation key", but (at least for me) it seems that the value is ignored.
Remarks
- Under https://yoursite/admin/structure/bibcite/reference/settings the default setting is
Citation key pattern = bibcite_[bibcite_reference:id] - You will need some way to check the "Citation key" value, for instance
- by creating a custom view including "Citation key" or
- by monitoring database contents (table bibcite_reference_revision__bibcite_citekey, field bibcite_citekey_value)
Steps to reproduce
- Go to https://yoursite/admin/config/bibcite/settings/mapping/bibtex
- Map inproceedings -> "Conference Paper" (default)
- Map "key" -> "Citation Key"
- Go to https://yoursite/admin/content/bibcite/reference/import
- File = test-withoutExtraKey.bib
- Format = BibTeX
You will get a publication with the title "Innovative Paper Title" and something like Citation key = "bibcite_123" (automatically generated, whereas I would expect that Citation key = "Alpha2025Innovative" (from line 1 of imported file), based on the mapping "key" -> "Citation Key".
If you add an extra field "key" with the expected value, then you get the expected value in "Citation key".
- Go to https://yoursite/admin/content/bibcite/reference/import
- File = test-withExtraKey.bib
- Format = BibTeX
You will get a publication with the title "Innovative Paper Title" and something like Citation key = "Alpha2025Innovative"

mark_fullmerThanks for reporting this. I've added a MR that, during import, correctly denormalizes the BibTex-style citation key, when present, using the existing fallback if not present, and, during export, populates the citationkey from the stored value during normalization.
