Trying to update the module using drupal 10.1 in drush updb step:
> [notice] Update started: simplenews_update_8203
> [error] Call to undefined method Drupal\Core\Config\ConfigManager::findConfigEntityDependents()
> [error] Update failed: simplenews_update_8203
[error] Update aborted by: simplenews_update_8203
[error] Finished performing updates.
Replace with findConfigEntityDependencies as said in https://www.drupal.org/node/3225357
doing so clears the error

However that update hook is from 2019, for updating from 8.x-1.x to 8.x-2.x. The 1.x version doesn't support Drupal 9, and it became unsupported along with Drupal 8, nearly 2 years ago.😃
The recommended/supported sequence is to upgrade from simplenews 8.x-1.x to 8.x-2.x then afterwards upgrade from Drupal 8 to Drupal 9.
If we commit this patch, then we would likely break sites that follow the supported/recommended sequence.

aleixUps, that's true Adam. but I hit this issue when upgrading from 7 to 10 version... In this case I cannot run drush updb .
