Drupal\migrate\Plugin\migrate\source\SqlBase is the base class for SQL-based migration source plugins.

The method checkRequirements() calls getDatabase(), which calls setUpDatabase(). That method already re-throws ConnectionNotDefinedException as a RequirementsException.

Starting in Drupal 10.1.0, the checkRequirements() method re-throws PDOException as a RequirementsException. This means that calls to checkRequirements() will throw the same exception if the required database key is not defined or if it is defined, but Drupal cannot connect to the database.
