Description:
In Metatag 7.x-2.x the module was changed so that it stores data in a JSON-encoded string, instead of as a serialized array.
While most sites and modules that interact with Metatag will not notice the difference, any code that directly interacts with Metatag config objects or per-entity records will need to be checked to ensure that it still works correctly.
