Now that Group 2 is in alpha and it looks a major change and improvement compared with Group 1, I wonder, what are the support plans for Group 1 after Group 2 is stable? Is it get some kind of "security fixes only" support for a while? For how long?

I did not dig deeper yet, but I assume the migration from Group 1 to Group 2 is going to be an expensive effort... #fixme.

Was on vacation, but the general idea is as follows:

  • No new features for v1, the API is too old to comfortably work with for me
  • Bugs found in version 1 will have patches accepted and if the problem exists in v2 it will be ported
  • At some point in the near future, once v2 is stable, v1 will be marked as "maintenance mode" (only security/critical bugs being fixed)
  • About 6 months later, it will be end of life, this will be communicated more clearly when v2 has a full release

With #4 said, what's the plan for/with v2 vs v3 now that there's also a v3 as a beta?

  • What's the support plan for v1? and v2? and v3?
  • Will there be an upgrade path from v2 to v3?
