META: Contribution Events Initiative roles and tasks

A couple of the learning/mentoring programs are a bit off the radar because they haven't been active for a long time. That said, they were extremely successful at onboarding/training new contributors and could be again (IMHO) if a few folks in this (or related initiatives) were interested in getting paid to take over and organize.

Drupal Dojo, 'still' the most popular Drupal Group (almost 3300 members/1300+ Twitter followers) coupled with a project-based learning program (like Drupal Open Learning) could a perfect platform to promote and coordinate contribution events that onboard and train new talent. Especially if we're able to centralize all contribution events on an existing platform that we can extend to incentivize and credit sponsors and contributors.

While they are currently archived, with some new organizers involved we could enable to sustain the program (https://opencollective.com/drupaldojo) and the organizers/mentors and other contributors involved (https://opencollective.com/drupalopenlearning). If the latter is hosted by Open Collective Foundation, interested organizers could potentially make it a full-time job w/ benefits!

As an admin of all these groups and collectives, I'd be happy to talk and collaborate with (in a limited capacity) any folks interested in leading/organizing/contributing.

Perhaps a social media coordinator to work with events and the DA?

As mentioned in #3280003-19: Open to co-maintainers for Contribution Events community project, maybe the maintainers/organizers could start by outlining their role and maybe provide an estimate of their availability?

Also would be good for everybody to continue brainstorming on roles/needs here.

Personally, I think just focusing on primary goals #3279806: Determine goals for the Contribution Events community project could provide an entry point for newcomers interested in contribution areas such as event planning, community building, marketing, documentation, and sustaining (looks like some roles/skills need to be documented for the latter).

Outside of strategy #3281963: Relaunch drupalcontribution.org, I "don't" think secondary goals like managing/maintaining/extending the website should be a responsibility for organizers of this particular initiative. It's possible we could hand off those responsibilities to those interested in learning by contributing #3281981-4: META: Contribution Events Initiative roles and tasks.

Circling back here as not being able to identify (and post) roles and needs has prevented contributors from becoming involved.

With regards to the last few comments (and based on the availability of organizers such as Kristen and Surabhi), I'd recommend the following -

• use https://www.drupal.org/community/contributor-guide/find-your-role to identify and link to roles and tasks broken out by contribution area (Community building, Contributor guide, Marketing, Mentoring, Event planning etc.)
• assume that most roles could be claimed by new contributors - especially if we could associate elements of the initiative with mentoring/training programs like Discover Drupal, Outreachy, Google Summer of Code, or some of the homegrown programs referenced above
• use similar initiatives such as Event Organizers Working Group or WordPress Training as a guide/inspiration for identifying roles
• even this task of creating roles could be assumed by a mentor/trainer who could then try to fill roles once they are posted
