Problem/Motivation

This project was created to encourage contribution events and allow these events to create issues in this project and give people credit for mentoring, organizing, sponsoring, participating, marketing, etc. Assuming this project is used successfully, it's unrealistic that one person can keep on top of making sure people are getting credited for their contributions.

Steps to reproduce

Proposed resolution

Add co-maintainers to this project. Ideal co-maintainers are people who have regularly contributed to contribution events, e.g. mentoring, organizing, sponsoring, participating, marketing, etc., or who have a strong desire to start doing so.

If you would like to be a co-maintainer, add a comment on this issue with some information about your experience with contribution events.

Remaining tasks

  1. Gather co-maintainer requests
  2. Evaluate requests
  3. Add co-maintainers to project

I’m willing to help. I’m a core subsystem maintainer, so I already deal with issue credit in the core queue. I help organize & mentor bugsmash. Seems like a natural extension.

kristen pol’s picture

@dww Great! I've added you :) I've also linked to this issue from the top of project page for more visibility.

kristen pol’s picture

I also tweeted out the project and appealed for more co-maintainers. I think there will be at least a couple more added soon.

I would love to help too! I can help with the event organising tasks and getting more visibility within Indian community.

@surabhi-gokte I've added you as a co-maintainer, thanks!

@virajekanayake Thanks for your interest in helping. Fyi, your profile isn't currently confirmed and not filled in. It would be helpful if you were to update your profile to include what you have done in the community.

I think it would be useful to have a list of people who are interested in organizing events but may not want to or have experience being a co-maintainer of a project. That should probably live off of a community initiative page. Let me see if I can take a quick stab at that now.

kristen pol’s picture

@dww @surabhi-gokte I added you as documentation guide maintainers as well: https://www.drupal.org/community-initiatives/contribution-events-initiative

volkswagenchick’s picture

I can help. I attend and help organize many North American events.

kristen pol’s picture

@volkswagenchick Thanks! I've added you as a maintainer on this project and on the documentation guide. Welcome :)

chrisdarke’s picture

Im happy to help! Got some resources that need tidying up but would be useful to share and reuse!

kristen pol’s picture

@ChrisDarke Great! I've added you as a maintainer on this project and on the documentation guide. Thanks:)

grienauer’s picture

I am one of the orga of Drupalcamp AT, initiator of Open Minds Awards, orga if DrupalAT Meetups and recently for all Drupal DACH meetups,… Drupal EOWG advisor, Mautic community secretary lead, DrupalAT Board Member,… happy to help where I can/makes sense.

kristen pol’s picture

@Grienauer Great :) I've added you as a maintainer on this project and on the documentation guide. Welcome and thanks!

kristen pol’s picture

Let's leave this issue open for another week and then mark fixed. Obviously, we can still add people after that, but we've got 6 co-maintainers now which is great... off to a good start!

leslieg’s picture

I can help from an EOWG and mentoring perspective

kristen pol’s picture

@leslieg Great, thanks! :) I've added you to this project and as a guide maintainer. Welcome aboard!

I'm closing this for now but we are always open to more co-maintainers so just ping me in the #contribution-events channel or add a comment here. Thanks.

Would it make sense to list all the maintainers/organizers along with their role(s) somewhere in the docs? If additional folks are needed to manage and sustain the initiative, maybe roles could be identified and listed too? https://www.drupal.org/community/contributor-guide/find-your-role

Seems like this type of initiative could provide an entry point for newcomers interested in contribution areas such as event planning, community building, marketing, documentation, and sustaining (looks like some roles/skills need to be documented for the latter).

kristen pol’s picture

@gusaus Maybe that is covered in this issue? #3281981: META: Contribution Events Initiative roles and tasks

gusaus’s picture

Totally forgot about that issue! Still might make sense to compile a list of team members (including their responsibilities - maybe availability?) and (all) roles we need to fill. Should we do that in #3281981: META: Contribution Events Initiative roles and tasks?

kristen pol’s picture

@gusaus Yeah, I think that could be covered there. Agree that we could use a variety of help for the initiative and it could be broken out better as we explore what those roles might be.
