Description:
In version 3.x and lower variants needed to extend the wrapper class in order to be selected. This was found to be problematic and a non-recommended pattern. When we introduced renderers during the 3.x lifecycle we did not follow this idea.
In 4.x there is no hierarchy relationship required between the fallback and the variants anymore, you can use whatever class is needed.
