tim.plunkettIf Page Manager still defined it's own routes, this would be straightforward. However it currently presents the UI as part of a wizard, using CTools. This would mean showing a single step of the wizard in an entirely different theme. Where would the rest of the UI go? It's a complicated question.
berliner commentedIt would already help if the blocks would preview in the frontend theme, for example in an iframe.
I would look into this, but I'm not even sure where to start.
berliner commentedFYI I started to tinker with a pure frontend-style editing approach (inspired by Panels IPE in D7) here: https://www.drupal.org/project/layout_builder_ipe
This allows to edit layout builder variants in the frontend theme.
In my specific use case this seems to actually work out.
