I have an unlimited media field where I add images, video, and remote video.
I want to create a slideshow per instruction 3 in Readme and on the module page.
there is no "Slick Carousel" option available for the formatter.
In the module file, modules/contrib/slick_views/src/Plugin/views/style/SlickViews.php ,I found this:
// Supports Blazy multi-breakpoint images if using Blazy formatter.
eiither state that it only supports multi value Blazy field images or support media module

FYI, view mode does nothing on its own. In order for you to format the field you may want to seek for anything under "Formatter".
Except for Slick Views with "Slick Carousel" as the plugin name, the rest of field formatters use similar conventions by field type:
Slick Image, Slick Text, Slick Paragraphs, Slick entity reference....Although they can have similar names as "Slick Carousel", I prefer stricter names by types last time just to give you a straight answer what plugin you are dealing with and why they differ in options and capability, etc. without poking around the codebase.
