2️⃣ Config Split has a beta release with the new core API, testers are welcome to give it a spin.

bircher	Nothing in particular which is new
bircher	ie it will run just fine with the same config as from 1.x and it doesn't have update hooks yet
bircher	It will need some documentation improvements because the way the weights work: Splits are all subscribed to the transformation events with weight 0 and are ordered by their split weight. BUT: If you want your split to have a different priority (for example with respect to other event subscribers such as config_ignore 3.x or the sxclude filter fro core then you can set that up in settings.php (documentation is missing as said)
bircher	things to come before 2.0.0:* splits in collections (ie splits as part of the sync folder and this participating in the zip archive) this is how we imaging the core module to work.* renaming of the config keys to use the same naming convention as the UI* drush command for disabling a split (ie remove all config from active that is in the split)* UI for what is now drush commands (export of split, import of split (which is enabling it) and disabling of split)

mikemadison	have we considered doing a survey of how folks using D8/D9 are actively managing their configuration?
mikemadison	it would be really interesting to get a sense. i know even within Acquia's Professional Services team there are variations, and I know from working with our partners and customers there's significant variation from nothing at all to config split to partial/feature-based
bircher	that would be interesting, but I am afraid not in the scope of the drupalcon presentation apart from a shout out to point people to the survey.
mikemadison	i mean, i think that's fine. i don't want to hijack the presentation
mikemadison	but using it as a mouthpiece to get some data might be super interesting
mikemadison	i know Jeff Geerling has done something similar for local development over the years with great success
bircher	I don't have the capacity to create such a survey and I am not sure what we hope to see from it?
mikemadison	i think having a feel for how the community does configuration might influence what core should focus on
bircher	if someone is creating a survey in time for the presentation I am going to mention it for sure
mikemadison	for instance, if 80% of the community (that participates) uses config split and requires conditional config... should that be something core looks to adopt?
mikemadison	(more broadly than it has***)
bircher	yes in fact the main focus of CMI 2 is now adding the new config_environment module to core. and we use config split to test out the features it would have to have
mikemadison	oh awesome. i mean if the data isn't useful, then maybe not useful to cram it in
mikemadison	but i think having a broad overview of what folks in the community are doing config wise would be a really useful data point
mikemadison	what modules are used, how do you deploy config changes, etc.
mikemadison	i would happily put together the survey
bircher	no it would for sure be useful, but for a survey to be successful we would have to have some goals of what kind of information we want to find out etc

bircher	all I said is that I don't have the capacity to put together a useful survey
