Problem/Motivation

We want to be able to use this module in Drupal 9 without WSOD.

Steps to reproduce

- Install the module via composer
- Try to add external entity
- Get WSOD with cryptic error in logs:

Drupal\Core\Config\Schema\SchemaIncompleteException: Entity type 'Drupal\Core\Config\Entity\ConfigEntityType' is missing 'config_export' definition in its annotation

(D8.8+ but deprecation in D9)
- Get interface error about ContentEntityStorageBase::doLoadMultipleRevisionsFieldItems missing, hence ExternalEntityStorage class should be abstract or implement the method (D8.8+).

Proposed resolution

Add config_export key to ExternalEntityType.php annotations as per patch, and implement a blank method in
ExternalEntityStorage.php. Patch with relevant changes attached.

Seeing this issue was first reported on 24 Sep 2020 (5 months ago), I can confirm:

  1. I encountered the same issue in Drupal 9.1.5
  2. The patch contributed by hexblot fixes the issue.

Hopefully my findings help motivate the merging of hexblot's patch into 2.x-dev@dev. Thank you for your contribution hexblot!
