Hi usability team,

Can we discuss improving the Drupal installation lifecycle wording? It's mostly to make it easier for the very beginner Drupaler.

I second #3. This problem is about over-use of the word "install", and confusing wording in general, when you go to admin/modules (or admin/themes for that matter) and use the UI to upload a contrib module's code to your site via FTP. Huh, I didn't realize that someone actually made a meta issue for this:

which encompasses
#2577407: Action of uploading module/theme files should consistently be called "Add", not "Install"

as well as about 10 other issues.

I just updated (phew!) the issue summary on the meta issue #2888657: [meta] Less confusing and more consistent wording needed in module/theme add/install/update to collect the whole process into one big messy sequence of bad usability, with screenshots from the child issues (of which there are many). So, we can look at that meta issue instead of all the child issues now, to figure out a more usable UI.

Drupal 9.0.10 was released on December 3, 2020 and is the final full bugfix release for the Drupal 9.0.x series. Drupal 9.0.x will not receive any further development aside from security fixes. Sites should update to Drupal 9.1.0 to continue receiving regular bugfixes.

Drupal-9-only bug reports should be targeted for the 9.1.x-dev branch from now on, and new development or disruptive changes should be targeted for the 9.2.x-dev branch. For more information see the Drupal core minor version schedule and the Allowed changes during the Drupal core release cycle.
