The CHANGELOG.txt mentions D8 a number of times. We either need to update it to D9 or word it in a D∞ (version agnostic) way.
https://www.drupal.org/8/download currently redirects to the latest D8 version, not sure how this is going to work for D9? Will there be a D9 equivalent (doesn't exist currently) or will there be a version agnostic one always pointing to the latest stable?

Kristen PolThere was a discussion that the links wouldn't be updated because they will redirect though IMO it would be nice if they didn't have the 8 in them once the redirects are done.
IMO it would be nice if the txt files were done in a version less way.

LendudeOk, so this does the text in a version less way. No update for the link.

longwaveRemoving the version number entirely seems simplest.

xjmThanks, this makes total sense. It still leaves:
...but not much we can do about that until there's a new alias. I mentioned it on #3054376: [META] Changes/additions on drupal.org preparing for Drupal 9's release.
Committed to 9.1.x and cherry-picked to 9.0.x, 8.9.x, and 8.8.x. While it's not strictly necessary on the D8 branches, it's an allowed backport as a documentation fix, and making it clearer that the info applies to the D9 update as well is useful on 8.8+ since those versions are intended to be forward-compatible with D9.
Thanks!

drummhttps://www.drupal.org/8/download redirects to https://www.drupal.org/latest-release, which is the best replacement for it.
