The README mentions #2876675: Allow symfony/event-dispatcher 4+ to be installed in Drupal 8 and says to change the composer command run for install if the issue's patch is not committed.

The issue has since become Closed (Won't Fix), meaning that the README can now say to "always modify the composer command".

If I'm not mistaken, I think you removed the wrong command. This is the one that has to be used, right, because the issue was not fixed?

cd $DRUPAL
composer require symfony/event-dispatcher:"4.3.4 as 3.4.99" drupal/search_api_solr
