I install the module in Drupal 9 and it works, but after loading the image in the menu item I found such bugs. (Used 8.x-2.x version + simple_menu_icons_drupal9.patch)

@Tolyan4ik : I could reproduce this problem in core 9.0.0-beta2 and 8.8.4 with 8.x-2.x (and in core 8.9.0-beta1 using simplytest.me)

All link urls with token and all form urls are destroyed by a prepended link tag
