I was trying to comment on issue 2689459, but I'm told I'm not confirmed yet.

I am unable to resolve my issue with the patch provided, and as this is a long thread, I wanted to confirm I had everything and inform the maintainers that the solution in 8.8.1 was not working (contrary to earlier comments where it was suggested it was working for the 8.7 branch of Drupal).

Hmmm ... To me, it looks as issue #2689459: If you don't want to translate your URL alias, the original URL alias won't work with your translations does exist. However there are no unpublished posts by OP.
