unable to select <none> as default - forces a default view

I've just configured a view field on my "page" content type, and even though it is not a required field, it is inserting a view when the node is edited.

I have checked the configuration of that field, and there is no option to set as default... despite the field being optional. So when the node is edited, the user must choose from the list of views.

Any thoughts?
