Block to display "events near you"

the purpose of our new small drupical module will be to show a block of drupal related events in the admin backend.
currently WordPress has such a feature since a while. We aim to create a small block which can be placed in the admin area and is powered by the d.o events stream.

We should support in the config:
- select continent
- select country
- select category (supportet: drupalcon,drupalcamp,contribution,training,drupalfest,localmeetup)
the filter to set, and if we use the widget directly, we can pass over the "layout=simple" parameter to the url
