When upgrading from D-5.10 to 6.4 the existing author information is moved to a new table.
The process dies in biblio_contributors (sometimes in _save_contributors or drupal_write_record?) after handling about 5300-5400 records.
It looks that the exact reason is hard to examine. No hints in logs! Memory problem?

It could be a memory problem, or it could be a script time-out problem. When you say it dies, what do you see on screen... blank screen, error message?

I will redo the upgrading process and take screen shots in case the effect appears again.
