Problem/Motivation

Install the latest coder (currently 3.3) using composer require drupal/coder.
Then run:
composer outdated drupal/*

Which will display:
drupal/coder 3.3.0 8.3.3

This seems to be caused by coder defining duplicate tags:
https://git.drupalcode.org/project/coder/tags
For example the 'drupal tag' style "8.x-3.3" and semantic versioning: "8.3.3".

Proposed resolution

Don't use semantic versions as tags? Coder seems to be the only module which does this?

Hm, but there is no "3.3.0" tag in the Coder repo?

I executed your composer install and outdated steps and got no output - so for me this is working as expected?

I think the 8.x-3.x tags should not interfere and they are just done to have releases with release notes on drupal.org.

Can you provide any more info how to reproduce this?

We've got the same issue when we run 'composer outdated drupal/*'
The output is:
drupal/coder 3.7.0 8.3.7

This happens because both https://packagist.org/ and https://packages.drupal.org/8 contains versions of the drupal/coder package. The Packagist repository contains the 7.x and 8.x versions while the Drupal.org repository contains the 2.x and 3.x versions. This will be an issue if we ever hit version 8.7.x, however for now the easiest way around this is to by scoping Composer to the 8.x version via composer require drupal/coder ^8.3.7.
