I've switched to a VPS account and migrated my site to a new server. now I'm having trouble logging in.

Is it possible that this module is related to the problem? I haven't switched phpass off before migrating.

If you used portable hashes you should be OK here (if this is not the case then we need more information), if not then you may need to make sure the PHP modules used for non-portable hashes are available on your new server.
