Problem/Motivation
The solution description in #2793809: [FEATURE] Provide direct download URLs for files and images describes the meta data and derivatives. In the end, what gets committed is just a domain-relative URL that is transferring the stream wrapper to an URI.
What's the current correct way to fetch files with image styles if we have a publicly accessible system, that will not need simple_oauth, consumers and consumers_image_styles module that come from the simple_oauth modue.
Proposed resolution
Have it documented somewhere.
Remaining tasks
User interface changes
API changes
Data model changes
NONE.

wim leersGreat question! And unfortunately I do not have a very satisfying answer for you 😞
This is currently not supported in JSON API; it's blocked on #2825812: ImageItem should have an "derivatives" computed property, to expose all image style URLs. Please let your voice be heard in that issue, with your +1 or -1, your opinion on the currently proposed approach there. 🙂 How do you think it should work?

ndobromirov commentedWhy not, the patch is there and it works :D.
It's just some bike-shedding that is going on that prevents a commit.
