Entity Connect requires Entityreference or References.

It should be possible to use some sort of master module (either an install profile or a site deployment module), using dependencies. For example we can have a master module, and then, in my_master_module.info:

...
dependencies[] = entityreference
dependencies[] = entityconnect
...

This does not work however in my tests, it tells us:

'Neither Entityreference nor References module is installed or activated.
Entityconnect needs at least one of those modules to work.'

It requires an ugly "drush en entityconnect -y && drush en -y my_master_module".

I would suggest not breaking the installation if a required module is missing, but rather showing an error thereafter, so we can cleanly install the module.

D7 reached its EOL back in January 2025, and there is no active release for D7 for this module anymore.
Development or support is not planned for D7. All D7-related issues are marked as outdated in a bunch.
