There's already a very impressive Sphinx module very recently made available. I had intended to create a "sphinx" project for this existing code, but it looks like you've already done so. I'm attaching the files in a zip. Are you interested in working from the attached code base?

I haven't seen this before, but it looks similar to what I've done (and plan on doing). Only it uses XMLPipe source type where I was planning to use mysql.

Where has it been made available? And have you made it?

I'm more than willing to cooperate. Feel free to contact me over IRC (my nick is johsw) or through my contact form

I've taken a closer look - and the whole index part is - as you say - very impressive.

I've got a lot of ideas both when it comes to indexing and searching, and I'm really excited about cooperating on this.

In the README.txt it said that http://drupal.org/user/39593 made the code. I'll try to contact him.

Hi, I'm very sorry for not pinging back earlier, but I've been very busy this week fighting against integration of Sphinx into a huge phpBB based site (zonaforo.meristation.com), with over 14 million posts, 15,000 post a day average. This has given me an experience that I will introduce into my module soon, as it makes easy to implement sphinx with scalability in mind, and I need this for other projects that I'll be involved, since we're about to start moving the big site to Drupal 6.x and so on...

I have now posted back to the infra mailing list and answered your email, joshw. The ZIP Jeremy posted above is something that I forwared to the infra mailing list as requested by moshe in the thread you started at g.d.o about Sphinx integration into Drupal (here).

My initial approach was to forward my code to someone else to be posted here at cvs.d.o, but now I realised that we need to work a bit more on this module, and that this may be of interest to everyone else.

Please try out the ZIP above, and if you feel it may cover your needs, then I honestly believe it would be better if you could transfer ownership of this project to me. I would be happy to include any features that your project may need, as it will surely be on benefit of everyone.

markus_petrux didn't want to work with me on the module. Instead he decided to make his own project at http://drupal.org/project/sphinxsearch

Status: Active » Closed (won't fix)

There are now two sphinx search projects, each currently exploring somewhat different methods for integrating Sphinx with Drupal. Marking this issue as won't-fix.
